Enid police investigate homicide

ENID, Okla. — Enid Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Monday evening in the 400 block of West Walnut.

David Richard Wimmer, 43, was found dead inside a residence on Walnut after a 911 call reported a man needing medical attention.

Capt. Jack Morris said at 6:48 p.m. Monday the Enid and Garfield County 911 Center received a 911 call concerning a male subject who needed medical attention at a residence in the 400 block of West Walnut.

The caller told the operator the man was lying in a pool of blood. EPD officers, along with Enid Fire Department and Life EMS, responded to the call.

On arrival, officers entered the residence and found Wimmer inside a bedroom lying face down in a pool of blood, Morris said. Emergency medical personnel determined Wimmer was deceased.

Officers found Wimmer had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the upper left chest area. Investigators from the Enid Police Department were called to the scene, as well as the state Medical Examiner.

Wimmer’s body was taken to Oklahoma City for autopsy but his death is being investigated as a homicide.

“At this time, the incident is being investigated as a homicide and no other information is being released by the Enid Police Department,” Morris said.
