NSU running back Joel Rockmore out this week, possibly longer

Northeastern State running back Joel Rockmore has been ruled out for the RiverHawks’ game on Saturday against Washburn.

The junior running back from Fort Worth, Texas, had magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) tests done earlier this week, and it revealed a slight tear of his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

“He’s out this week and possibly the season,” Northeastern State head coach Kenny Evans told the Tahlequah Daily Press. “But we don’t know what we’re going to do yet.”

Rockmore has 244 yards on 41 carries through two games this season. He rushed for 99 yards in the RiverHawks’ season-opening game at Pittsburg State, and he tallied 145 yards on 22 carries against Missouri Southern last weekend.

Against the Lions, Rockmore limped to the sidelines following a 22-yard run in the third quarter. He did, however, return later in the quarter.

With Rockmore out, Terrance Dixon will take over as the RiverHawks’ starting running back.
