Boy killed in hit-and-run incident

TAHLEQUAH — Tahlequah police are investigating after a hit-and-run crash left one boy dead and another injured Sunday morning.

Two boys were walking west in the eastbound lanes of the bypass, between Stick Ross and West Fourth Street, when they were struck by an unknown vehicle. Police were called to the scene shortly after 4 a.m. One boy died of his injuries about an hour later; the second was treated for non-lethal injuries.

Police Chief Nate King said the victims' names are not yet being released.

"We strongly urge the driver involved in this tragic event to come forward," said King.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Tahlequah Police Department at 918-456-8801.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of both young men who were involved in this tragedy," said King.
