AFTERNOON UPDATE: Tahlequah names Bruner as new boys basketball coach

Rickey Bruner Jr. has been hired as Tahlequah’s new boys basketball coach, the Tahlequah Daily Press learned on Thursday.

Multiple sources informed the Daily Press of the hire, and Lisa Presley, Tahlequah Public Schools’ superintendent, confirmed the appointment.

“He comes highly recommended,” Presley said.

Bruner takes over a team that went 6-17 during the 2013-2014 season. He also inherits a program that has failed to reach the area tournament round of the Class 5A playoffs since 2009.

Bruner will be Tahlequah’s third coach in as many seasons. He is also the Tigers’ fourth coach since 2009.

See Friday's Tahlequah Daily Press for more on Tahlequah's boys basketball hire.
