STILLWATER, Okla. — Former Oklahoma State University basketball player Darrell WIlliams will not be retried on two counts of rape by instrumentation and a count of sexual battery, Payne County District Attorney Tom Lee said Monday.
Lee said the victims in the case wanted to move forward with their lives, and didn't want to go through the trauma of testifying again. He said he respected their decisions.
Williams was convicted on July 23, 2011, of two counts of rape by instrumentation and sexual battery. The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals ordered a new trial because individual jurors went to the crime scene and the jury discussed their personal observations during deliberations, which violated the trial court's instructions.
