Body found at scene of fire

ENID, Okla. — A body was found Wednesday afternoon in an old detached garage that burned on West Randolph.

Enid Fire Marshal Ken Helms said as investigators began their efforts to determine the cause and origin of the fire, they came across a body in the building behind a home at 1510 W. Randolph.

Helms said Enid Police Department detectives and the state Medical Examiner’s office had been contacted. No identification had been made Wednesday evening. Helms said interviews were being conducted with all of those related to the property.

The fire began in the shed and quickly spread to the home as firefighters arrived on scene.

Helms said the shed was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived on scene.

At times, flames could be seen shooting from below the roof line of the home. Firefighters fought the blaze from the front and back of the house at times.

The fire was reported at 3:39 p.m. by an off-duty EFD driver, Mark Frye, who was driving by. Helms said Frye conducted a primary search of the home and found no one was there at the time.

Helms said the building behind the house did not have electricity and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
