McCain on smartphone poker: 'I get a little bored'

WASHINGTON — Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who was photographed by The Washington Post playing poker on his smartphone during Tuesday's Syria hearing, explained to CNN that he just needed a break from a lengthy hearing.

"As much as I like to always listen in rapt attention constantly with the remarks of my colleagues over a a three-and-a-half-hour period, occasionally I get a little bored, and so I resorted" to poker, McCain said drily. "But the worst thing about it is, I lost thousands of dollars."

The senator later clarified that he was only playing for fake money.

McCain also tweeted about the photo shortly after it went up: "Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing - worst of all I lost!"
