Aspiring rapper arrested in connection with burned, dismembered body

SALISBURY, Mass. — An aspiring rapper wanted in connection with the brutal slaying of a man whose dismembered and burned remains were found last week in two locations in Massachusetts has been arrested in San Diego, police said.

Reginald Cummings, a 26-year-old performer who goes by the name R.E. Clipz, was arrested Thursday morning on a fugitive warrant, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. On Wednesday, police identified him as a "person of interest" in the death of 24-year-old Dennis Ray Jackson.

Jackson's burning remains were found last week scattered in two locations -- Wednesday night inside a barrel outside Bridgewater State Prison, in Bridgewater, Mass., and Thursday morning behind a building in Boston's Hyde Park.

A day later, more than a dozen state and local law enforcement officials searched the Salisbury beachfront apartment Cummings had rented in September, where Jackson had been spotted on many occasions. Police sources have told The Daily News of Newburyport, Mass., that Jackson may have been killed and dismembered in that apartment.

Cummings has a long criminal record that includes drug charges and assault charges, according to court records.

Earlier Thursday, the Plymouth County District Attorney's office confirmed that charred remains found on grounds owned by Bridgewater State Prison belonged to Jackson, the father of three whose last address had been in Haverhill, Mass.

Investigators were able to lift fingerprints from the remains and match them to Jackson, a DA spokeswoman said. Burnt remains found the next morning behind a Hyde Park building are being tested by a Boston medical examiner to determine whether they too belong to Jackson.

Details for this story were reported by The Daily News of Newburyport, Mass.
