ORIENTA, Okla. — A Terrell, Texas, man was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident three-tenths of a mile west of Orienta late Friday.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Anthony G. Horton, 28, was being pursued by police in his 2004 Ford pickup when officers laid stop sticks across U.S. 412 west of Orienta. When the pickup ran over the stop sticks, it veered off the roadway and into the ditch on the right. Horton overcorrected, and the pickup crossed the roadway in a broadside before veering off the left side of the road.

According to the report, the pickup overturned three times before coming to rest. Horton was ejected about 40 feet before the pickup came to rest. Horton was not wearing his seatbelt and the pickup airbags did not deploy.

Horton’s body was taken by Fairview Funeral Home to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City.

Horton’s condition at the time of the pursuit remains under investigation, OHP said.
