Lady Riders win big

— PORUM — Tiffany Thompson scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds to guide the Hulbert girls to a 57-37 win over Kinta in the opening round of the Greenleaf Invitational in Porum on Tuesday night. Thompson made only one of her eight three-point attempts, but she made up for it by going eight of 15 from inside the arc.

Tina Buford and Megan Cox both chipped in with 12 points apiece for the Lady Riders (2-0). As a team, Hulbert finished 24 of 56 (42 percent) from the field and 19 of 38 (50 percent) on two-point shots.

Hulbert raced out to a 13-8 lead after one quarter and eventually bumped its advantage up to 29-19 at halftime. A 19-5 third quarter for Hulbert then put the game away.

The Lady Riders advance to the tournament semifinals for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday where they’ll take on Porum, who beat Porter, 51-21, on Tuesday.

Also at the Greenleaf Invitational, the Hulbert boys posted a 60-48 victory on Monday night. Parker Taylor led the Riders with 22 points. Hulbert will now take on Oaks in the semifinals on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

Oral Roberts defeats Cameron 74-64

TULSA (AP) — Shawn Glover scored 15 points and took part in an early flurry of shots that boosted Oral Roberts past Division II Cameron 74-64 on Tuesday night.

Cameron’s William Cook scored first, but Oral Roberts (5-3) had six different players respond with baskets and the Golden Eagles led 15-5 less than five minutes into the game. The lead was never in doubt after that even though neither team had a good shooting night.

Aside from Glover, Jorden Kaufman added a career-best 11 points with eight rebounds, Korey Billbury had 11 points and Drew Wilson a double-double (his first at ORU and second career) with 10 points and 10 boards. Oral Roberts shot 42.9 percent (30-for-70).

Cook finished with 10 points for the Aggies (3-5), as did Desmond Henry and Charles Joy. Cameron shot just 38.7 percent (24-62).

The Golden Eagles held a 47-37 rebounding edge.
