Langston Jones was named to the 2013 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Honorable Mention Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
The senior linebacker for the Northeastern State football team was the leading tackler from Super Region 3 (for the second-straight year) by a 21-tackle margin. He finished fourth in the NCAA in both total tackles (141) and tackles per game (12.8). The versatile player also ranked 12th in the MIAA in tackles for loss (9.0) and 15th in pass breakups (eight), while finishing with a pair of interceptions. He is fourth in career tackles (387) amongst all active Division II players.
Jones has been honored as the 2013 Oklahoma State College All-Star Defensive Player of the Year, and he has been named to the 2013 Daktronics All-Super Region 3 Second Team and the All-MIAA Second Team. He was also named to the 2013 Don Hansen All-Super Region 3 Second Team.
The Don Hansen Division II All-America Team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who died at 75 in 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-American teams for the first time in 1988.
The Don Hansen Football Committee selected All-Super Region teams in December and early January, with the first-team and second-team All-Super Region players advancing to the national ballot.
A total of 168 players earned some form of Don Hansen All-America honors. Players from 78 of the 166 football-playing schools in Division II earned Don Hansen All-America accolades. National Champion NW Missouri State had seven honorees, including four first-team players.
