Inside the MIAA

A weekly look at basketball in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association

Ahead of the pack

Emporia State:
Having suffered their first loss of the season at Northeastern State, the Hornets are still in first place in the league, thanks to Central Missouri’s slip-up at Lindenwood on Saturday. Emporia State rebounded from its first setback with a 73-50 win over Central Oklahoma.

Up and coming

Mo. Southern / Washburn:
Missouri Southern leads Washburn by a game, but both are riding five-game winning streaks. Both clubs are looking up at Emporia State and Central Missouri in the standings.

On the skids

The Blue Tigers have fallen upon hard times since embarking on league play. Lincoln has been saddled with a 10-game losing streak since starting MIAA play.

- Flax honored by league:
Central Missouri’s Keuna Flax was named the women’s basketball Athlete of the Week after averaging 28 points in a 1-1 week by the Jennies on the road at Lincoln and Lindenwood. Flax notched a career-high 35 points at Lincoln.

Games of the week

Men: Missouri Southern at Central Missouri

If winning the regular-season crown is a viable option for either team, a win here is almost a must. The two clubs will square off twice in the span of eight days starting on Saturday.

Women: Emporia State at Fort Hays State

Fort Hays State just needs a win here to stay afloat and stay in the running for a first-round bye at the league championship. A win for Emporia State gives it a solid road victory moving forward.
