Ahead of the pack

Northwest Missouri State:
The Bearcats continue to maintain a stranglehold on the league, and they now own a one-game lead over Central Missouri with one week left to play in the regular season. Since Jan. 9, Northwest Missouri State has only lost once (a 82-68 setback at Missouri Southern) in its last 13 games.

Up and coming

Central Missouri:
Trying to track down Northwest Missouri State for the top spot in the league, the Mules have notched eight straight victories, including two road victories at Lindenwood and Southwest Baptist last week. During its eight-game winning streak, Central Missouri has held opponents to an average of 65.3 points per game. Now only a road game at Missouri Western on Wednesday stands between the Mules and Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.

On the skids

Nebraska Kearney:
A recent seven-game winning streak was wiped out by back-to-back losses last week on the road for the Lopers. Setbacks at Emporia State and Fort Hays State now have Nebraska Kearney in a position where it needs to win twice this week to host a game in the conference tournament.

Notes

- Addison adds league honor:
Missouri Southern posted back-to-back 100-point performances last week, and at the center of them was guard Marquis Addison, who was named the MIAA’s men’s basketball Athlete of the Week. Addison started the week with 33 points against Southwest Baptist, and he followed that up with 17 points against Pittsburg State.
