OSU hoops has 15 league games on national television

State briefs

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State’s men’s basketball team will have 15 nationally televised league games during the 2014 season.

The Cowboys open the Big 12 Conference portion of their schedule on Jan. 4, as OSU travels to Manhattan, Kan., to take on the Kansas State Wildcats on ESPNU.

Contests at West Virginia on Jan. 25, versus Baylor on Feb. 1, versus Oklahoma on Feb. 15 and at Iowa State on March 8 will be on either ESPN or ESPN2. The game at Texas on Feb. 11 will be televised on ESPN2, and the game against Kansas on March 1 will be aired on ESPN.

For the first time since 2010, Oklahoma State will have a regular-season game on CBS. The Cowboys’ game at Kansas on Jan. 18 will be on CBS.

The Oklahoma basketball team will open Big 12 play on Jan. 4 at Texas. The time is still to be announced by the league. The Sooners will follow that up with their Big 12 opener against Kansas on Jan. 8. The game will air on ESPN 2.

OU will close out Big 12 play on March 8 at TCU.

UCO softball coach resigns

EDMOND — University of Central Oklahoma softball coach Genny Stidham has resigned to take over the Texas Woman’s program in Denton, Texas.

Stidham is leaving after 16 years at UCO and leading the Bronchos to a 51-11 record and the NCAA Division II softball championship last season.

Texas Woman’s University went 51-14 last season. Stidham said the opportunity was one she couldn’t pass up.

UCO also announced that it named assistant coach Cody White as interim head coach of the program for the coming season.

OU’s Ikard makes SI’s team

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma senior center Gabe Ikard was named 2013 Sports Illustrated Preseason All-America Team selected by Stewart Mandel. Ikard is also a member of the Rimington Trophy Watch List for the annual award presented to the nation’s most outstanding center among FBS teams.

An Oklahoma City native, Ikard has played in 39 games (37 starts) on the offensive line for the Sooners. A two-time All-Big 12 First Team selection, Ikard earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America First Team in 2012 and was also a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy finalist.
