Northeastern State's offense erupts again in blowout of Lincoln

The Northeastern State baseball team recorded a 12-2 run-rule victory in eight innings over Lincoln Saturday afternoon at Rousey Field.

The RiverHawks (12-13, 9-10 MIAA) moved to 3-0 in the series with the Blue Tigers (1-18, 0-15 MIAA), and they have won all three games by double digits.

Seniors Kyle Singleton and Cody Robinson led NSU with two hits each. Singleton drove home two and scored twice, while Robinson had one RBI and one run scored. Junior Preston Cash entered as a pinch runner and was 1-for-1 with two RBI and two runs scored. Junior Fabio Arcelay hit a pinch-hit home run in the seventh, and sophomore Cody Begovich scored three times.

Northeastern State got started early with a three-run first. Begovich was the first to score after he was driven home by a double down the right field line by Singleton. Begovich led off the game with a walk. Robinson then scored on a wild pitch and Singleton touched home following an infield error that was hit by senior Ryan Staggs.

The two teams exchanged single runs in the third and fourth innings, and Nick Lovell scored on a James Earleywine groundout in the fifth to cut NSU’s lead to 4-2.

Senior David Weber drove home sophomore Andrew Walker in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, and another RBI single from Singleton later in the inning plated Begovich. Arcelay’s first-career home run in the seventh pushed the advantage to 8-2 in favor of the home side, and a four-run eighth halted the game due to the run rule.

The Blue Tigers scattered five hits throughout their lineup. Zach Roberts and Lovell scored the two runs. Joe Jungmeyer (0-5) threw the first six innings and conceded six runs on six hits.

Junior Bryan McClellan (3-1) took the bump and tossed six innings. He struck out seven and walked four, while giving up just two runs on five hits in the winning effort. Junior Seth Hudson threw the final two frames and did not concede a hit or a run.

The two squads will wrap up the four-game series with a single nine-inning game at noon Sunday in Tahlequah.
