State briefs

HOUSTON — D’Andre Wright scored 15 points, James Woodard had a double-double and Tulsa withstood a late rally by Rice to defeat the Owls 77-71 on Saturday night.

Tulsa (16-14, 8-8 C-USA) held a 73-60 lead with 2:26 remaining in the game but Julian DeBose capped an 11-2 run by the Owls with a three-point play to make it 75-71 with 27 seconds to go. DeBose ended his night with 17 points and five rebounds.

Rice’s comeback fell short however with a turnover and two missed 3-pointers and the Golden Hurricane were able to hold on for the win.

Tamir Jackson scored 30 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had five assists for Rice (5-25, 1-15).
