Sequoyah teams roll Riverside

Local and area briefs

ANADARKO — A quartet of players in double figures and three dominant quarters to close out the game led to a 77-47 victory for Class 3A No. 9 Sequoyah over Riverside on Saturday.

Caisen Green led the Indians (13-6) with 13 points, while B.J. Leach, Ryan Helsley and T.J. Jones all registered 11 points apiece.

Sequoyah claimed a 22-17 lead after one quarter and eventually built its advantage up to 57-35 at the end of three periods.

Evan Sullivan recorded game-high scoring honors for Riverside with 18 points.

In the girls game, Class 3A No. 12 Sequoyah prevailed 71-57 in a game that featured a huge scare.

Late in the contest, Sequoyah’s Kelsey Leach tried to take a charge but landed hard on the floor. She was carted off the floor but was later released from an Anadarko hospital with a mild concussion.

Audrey Ballou lead Sequoyah with 19 points, and Loren Young chipped in with 16 points.

Both Sequoyah teams will be back in action Monday at home against Lincoln Christian.

Hulbert teams split with Pirates

GORE — A 29-percent shooting performance could not keep the Hulbert girls from blowing out Gore, 52-10, on Friday night.

Tiffany Thompson outscored Gore on her own and totaled 23 points to help the Lady Riders improve to 13-7. Hulbert freshman Megan Colvin chipped in with 10 points.

Hulbert was able to put the game away in the first quarter, outscoring Gore 24-2. A 10-2 second quarter sent the Hulbert into the halftime locker room up 34-4.

In the boys game, Gore outscored Hulbert by nine in the fourth quarter to record a 61-43 victory. Craig Potts led Hulbert with 16 points, and Mason Fielden added 12 in the losing effort.

Next up for the Hulbert clubs will be a pair home games on Tuesday against Sallisaw Central.

Goodrich, KU beat in-state rival

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Former Sequoyah standout Angel Goodrich buried a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in overtime to force a second overtime period in what ended up to be a 89-80 victory for Kansas over Kansas State on Saturday.

Goodrich finished with 11 points, five assists and four rebounds, as the Jayhawks (14-6, 5-4 Big 12) pulled off a season sweep of their in-state rival. Carolyn Davis paced Kansas with 29 points.

Kansas State (12-9, 3-6) had five players score in double figured, led by Mariah White’s 18 points.
