Public library to undergo renovations

TAHLEQUAH — In preparation for renovation work to begin Nov. 19, all scheduled meetings and programs at the Tahlequah Public Library have been canceled for the remainder of the year.

During the renovation, the library may only be entered through the front door. Computers and Wi-Fi will remain available but could be affected. If there are service interruptions, library users can ask staff to locate books and other materials.

“We had hoped to be able to shift things around and use one side of the building at a time during renovations, but the architect said it would be unsafe,” said Robin Mooney, branch manager. “It will be a hassle, but it will be worth it in the long run.”

Members of groups that meet at the library should call club officers for rescheduling information.

New flooring, paint, stair railings, and shelves are part of the renovation. Ramps inside and outside the building will be removed, and the restrooms improved.

Most funding for the renovation is through the Tahlequah City Capital Improvements Bond. Additional funding will come through donations from private individuals. Donations to the library renovation can be sent to Tahlequah Public Library, Renovation Fund, 120 S. College, Tahlequah, Okla. 74464.

Regular library operating hours are Monday - Thursday 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Call (918) 456-2581 for more information.
