THS student art fundraiser

TAHLEQUAH — The art department at Tahlequah High School is hosting a student art fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, in the new THS cafeteria.

Cost to attend is $30 per child, and includes dinner and an evening filled with hands-on art experiences. Youth can have fun painting, sculpting and making collages.

Space is limited to the first 120 students. Parents should sign children in at the door of the cafeteria.

  • NSU Opera to present ‘Into the Woods’

    Northeastern State University’s Opera Workshop will present the classic Sondheim musical “Into the Woods” on Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. and will offer a matinee on Saturday, April 26, at 3 p.m.
    Both performances can be seen at the NSU Center for Performing Arts at the NSU-Tahlequah campus.

  • Cherokee musical seeks actors for show

    “Nanyehi” is the story of Nancy Ward, a legendary woman who was first honored in the 18th century as a Cherokee war woman, but then as a peacemaker during the American Revolution.
    To tell the story, the Tulsa production is seeking nearly 30 actors to complete the cast.
    Principal roles and chorus parts are available for both Native Americans and non-Native Americans, and for both singers and non-singers.
    Auditions will be held at the Fly Loft on May 3 for children ages 4-15 from 10-11:30 a.m. and for adults from 1-5 p.m.
    Auditions will resume May 4 from 1-5 p.m. The Fly Loft is at 117 N. Boston Ave.

    Area residents can show support for this year’s Remember the Removal riders with an official 2014 Remember the Removal T-shirt.
    Proceeds from the sales of the shirts will help support the riders as they travel 950 miles across the Trail of Tears. The shirt costs $15 and is available at Cherokee Nation Gift Shop Tahlequah and online at CherokeeGiftShop.com.
    The Remember the Removal Bike Ride begins in New Echota, Ga., in late May and will follow the northern route of the Trail of Tears, ending in Oklahoma.

  • CCSO says egg hunt a success

    Around 200 children gathered Saturday to hunt Easter eggs with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
    Undersheriff Jason Chennault said the sheriff’s office worked with the Bank of Cherokee County and Help-In-Crisis to offer the yearly egg hunt at Murrell Home Park.

  • Sequoyah alumni reunion slated May 2-3

    The Sequoyah Alumni Association Reunion is set for Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3.
    All former students, staff and their families are invited to attend.
    The Sequoyah Alumni Association will conduct a Scholarships Benefit, May 2, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Tsa La Gi Community Meeting room.
    Fundraising activities include an Indian Taco sale, three auctions, and a cake walk. All benefit proceeds provide scholarships to three Sequoyah High School graduating seniors each academic year.

  • NSU to celebrate Earth Day Tuesday, April 22, with workshop, games

    On Tuesday, April 22, Northeastern State University will celebrate “Earth Day 2014: Gather Here. Go Green.” This event is a university-wide program led by the Committee for Sustainability and the Northeastern Student Government Association.
    This year’s Earth Day celebration will take place from 2–6 p.m. and will consist of fun and learning. There will be a sustainability workshop from 2–3 p.m. in the University Center, Ballroom C, and that will be followed by fun in the sun in the Second Century Square with organizational tables, music and prizes.
