Something new for you in the Press!

TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS

Astute readers of our online version may have noticed by now that we added a new feature yesterday afternoon. We think you're going to like it.

On Wednesday, CNHI Deputy Bureau Chief J.B. Bittner, and Rick Lepper, Web site manager/editor for the Muskogee Phoenix, spent the day with Press staff members, showing us how to make videos and slide shows to post online. It's all part of a concerted effort to beef up Web site content -- not to replace what we have in our daily printed edition, but to complement it.

Our first slide show is a selection of photos from little league baseball and softball games. Our first video features clips from the annual Abstinence Tea, held Wednesday for teenage girls. A story by Special Writer Renee Fite accompanies the video.

We have a lot of great ideas on how we're going to use these new features, but they'll take some time to implement. We've got the slide show process down pretty well, but we'll need more practice with the videos before we can do what we really want. Online readers should keep an eye on our Web site to watch how it evolves and develops over the next few months.

The first thing you may notice is a small graphic embedded in a story, indicating a slide show or video is available. As we become more adept and as time allows, we'll have more to offer. Future possibilities may include slide shows and videos submitted by readers; musical presentations; and "shows" similar to what podcast fans enjoy. And one day, our ad staff may even produce "commercials" for online advertisers.

We're looking at other online options as well. We hope to find a way to bring back the popular posting feature for discussion about individual stories, as opposed to the free-for-all forum dominated by a few individuals. We're also going to be fine-tuning other elements, like reader polls and e-mail options.

As this process unfolds, we want your feedback. Let us know what you think, and if you have any ideas for special presentations, drop us an e-mail, at news@tahlequahdailypress.com. You may also e-mail Managing Editor Kim Poindexter at kpoindexter@tahlequahdailypress.com, or Publisher Charlotte Klutts at cklutts@tahlequahdailypress.com.

We're excited about the possibilities, and we think you will be, too!
