Those making the trek to this weekend’s Medicine Stone music festival will be treated to an innovative act when Todd Snider takes the stage Saturday.
Snider, 46, has a multi-dimensional American music style which recently won critical acclaim with his 2012 release “Agnostic Hymns & Stoner Fables,” which Rolling Stone listed as one of the year’s 50 best albums. His live shows are particularly entertaining.
“I can’t guarantee it will be a perfect show, because I perform with zero professionalism,” Snider said. “Actually, it is just crazy fun. Maybe I’m not very professional, but I absolutely love performing live. I don’t phone it in.”
Though he was in Oklahoma recently, Snider is making his first trip to Cherokee County.
“Honestly, this concert was my first time to hear of Tahlequah - I love the name,” he said. “I am really looking forward to visiting. I’m back in the state after performing at the Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa [on July 10] as part of the [pre-festival benefit] for the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival.”
Medicine Stone is Sept. 12-14 at Diamondhead Resort on the Illinois River.
The lineup includes Randy Crouch and The Flying Horse Band and Thomas Trapp during the Thursday Welcome Party.
The Friday concert includes Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Stoney Larue, Cody Canada and The Departed and the Red Dirt Rangers.
On Saturday, performers are the Turnpike Troubadours, Todd Snider, John Fullbright, Jason Eady and John Moreland.
More than 2,000 tickets have been sold and all Diamondhead facilities are booked for the event. However, tickets are still available for those wishing to stay overnight on the campgrounds, or lodging may be arranged at other Illinois River resorts or local hotels. Single-day tickets are also available.
Campers may bring food and supplies. Alcohol is permitted on the campgrounds, but not in the concert area. Glass containers are not allowed on the Illinois River.
Ticket information and purchase is available at www.medicinestoneok.com. Tickets cannot be purchased from Diamondhead Resort.
