TAHLEQUAH — Tulsa-based company Promise Hotels broke ground recently on the nation’s first new Holiday Inn Express & Suites prototype. The new 46,000 square foot, 80-room hotel will be in Tahlequah near the intersection of South Muskogee Avenue and the highway loop.

Construction will begin immediately with an anticipated completion date of February 2015. The $7.22 million hotel will feature a new contemporary look with an indoor pool, sauna, fitness center, and larger meeting room.

Promise Hotels currently owns and operates eight hotels in Northeast Oklahoma. They selected Tahlequah for the community’s vibrant recreation and proximity to the Northeastern State University main campus.

“Firstly, we love Tahlequah because it is such a great leisure market,” said Paresh “Pete” Patel, president and CEO of Promise Hotels.

“Additionally, we can help NSU attract more athletic events.”

According to NSU President Steve Turner, visiting athletic teams and fans are going to Muskogee because of limited hotel space.

Mayor Jason Nichols expressed his confidence in the hotel ownership and management company.

“Promise Hotels has a long and successful career in the hospitality industry. Pete’s company has a proven track record, having owned and operated many hotels in the region,” said Nichols.

The Ross Group is the construction company and John Sanford is the architect on the project.
