Pastels, bling made grade for spring fashion

TAHLEQUAH — Feminine, flowing and fun fashions in bright colors and pastels are on the racks at local retail stores for spring shopping.

Cashmere Lane is featuring pastels in fashion tops, dresses and slacks; bright, sparkly purses and sandals; and beaded necklaces and other accessories. Wall-to-wall shoes and sandals, stylish capris and jeans, and dresses are on display at Sharpe’s. And at S&V Fashions, the spotlight’s on fishnet jackets and tunics, lace insets, and tons of accessories and bling from jewelry to caps to handbags.

Lace and ruffles, inset crochet, chic separates in black and white, and bright colors like apple green, plum purple and hot pink, are among the variety of fashions for teens and women at S&V. Print pants and jeans; soft, feminine, flowing floral fabrics; and soft scarves can be accented with rings, watches, bracelets and caps. OU and OSU rings, sea turtle shell rings, and rings in a variety of stones and other unusual designs fill the display cases, beside wrist wrap watches and other timepieces in lots of colors and bling.

“Fishnet jackets and pullover tunic tops are the most fun thing I have for spring,” said Jana Moss, owner. “I like lace and feminine fabrics.”

The roll-on beaded bracelets, handmade in Nepal, are now available, she said.

“They’re real comfortable, and buying them helps women in Nepal,” Moss said. “We also have long and short beaded, multiple-strand necklaces and earrings.”

Lightweight silk scarves in stripes, solids and bright prints have been selling well, she said, along with brightly-colored purses with bling. Some are beaded or have rhinestones.

Cross-body purses are popular, Moss said, and the straps are long enough to wear across from shoulder to hip.

“Some have leather cut-out flowers in multicolor designs and black,” Moss said. “Hand-painted leather Anuschka purses feature flowers, butterflies, peacock feathers and a variety of designs.”

Anuschka also comes in passport covers, coin purses, and wallets.

Caps in pink, camo, turquoise, blue and purple feature crosses and other designs.

S&V Fashions, just off the corner of Vinita and Grand View Road, keeps costs low by staying in the same location for several decades.

Cashmere Lane, the newest fashion retail store to brighten the downtown business district, is full of spring colors and styles, including plus sizes.

“Spring is in at Cashmere Lane,” said owner Carrie Lane. “The Cashmere Lane tunic is in. These tops have been named Cashmere Lane by everybody in town.”

They have new, fun, printed tees; And On Earth As It Is In the Cloth brands; and  wedge beaded flip-flops. Maxi dresses are on their way, Lane said.

“Lime green, aqua, light pink, banana yellow and lavender pastels are in now,” she said. “And summer colors will be neons in these same shades.”

Two of the store’s biggest-selling brands are Treska and Yahada. Cashmere Lane also carries IT jeans, known for their amazing fit, and Zenim, also with a great fit, Lane said.

“People love these fashion jeans,” she said.

For accents, there are vintage beaded purses; scarves in solid, prints and florals; jute bags in lots of colors for the beach, lake or river; and a new candle line with spring scents.

Skechers and Sanuk shoes in many colors and styles are plentiful at Sharpe’s.

“These things have memory foam and are ultra lightweight, flexible and very comfortable,” said Manager Tracy Brown. “Skechers and Bobs, tennis shoes, flip-flops – it’s your one-stop shopping for shoes in spring for men, women and kids.”

The Sanuks have flip-flops, and some have yoga mat soles and rag tops.

“They insist they’re not shoes, but sandals,” Brown said. “They’re the most comfortable shoe.”

He’s already reordered a couple of times.

“People who know Sanuk know what to expect,” Brown said.

Sharpe’s also carries fashion tops, shorts, capris and jeans in the popular Miss Me and Silver brands.

“We have some nice jeans in different colors, and some have bell bottoms,” he said. “Those will be the hottest items for us going forward the next few months.”

Shopping with her daughter, Trinity Wheeler, 3, mom Julie Morris looked at all the colorful youth dresses.

“I like all the frilly styles and bright colors,” Morris said, holding a dress up to her daughter. “We like the pink cowgirl boots and belts with crosses, too.”

Fashions here are in style and good quality, Morris said, in “happy colors!”

Another shopper, Chelsea Dorr, was looking for good working clothes.

“I like to wear these shorts with my cowboy boots, and I love the Silver jeans,” Dorr said. “And the Sanuk sandals are so comfortable.”
