Holiday parties and gift-giving are two of the best reasons to shop Tahlequah.
Merchants have everything from gowns to stocking stuffers, jeans and leggings, and gloves and boot cuffs.
“Scarves, scarves and scarves” are big for winter, said Junie Ludwig of Junie’s downtown. “Lots of layers with tribal print cardigans.”
Holiday dresses are trending toward short. One eye-catching dress of lace and ombre is available in gold or blackberry colors. Leather-look jackets in brown and black, faux fur vests, and skirted leggings are hot this season, and Infinity scarves and lightweight, gauzy scarves are flying off the shelves. Gloves and handbags also entice customers.
“Teal is the hottest color I have in my store,” Ludwig said. “It looks good on everybody.”
Jeans never go out of style, and Junie’s carries Miss Me, Grace In LA and LA Idol brands. The store also has a large selection of Tervis glasses.
Winter weather means a trip to Workman’s for Carhartt overalls and coveralls. Workman’s is the only store that carries Thorlo boot socks.
Duck Dynasty tees and hoodies, Wrangler and Cinch jeans, western and work boots and shirts with snaps and buttons and are also available, said Charles Workman. Roper shirts are featured in plaids and stripes, while Stetson shirts come in dressier styles. More shirts are arriving in orange and black, and vests and coats with or without hoods are also displayed.
Work boot brands include Red Wing, Danner and Chippawa, while western boots are Tony Lama, Justin, Nicoma and Twisted X. Boys’, women’s and girls’ styles are also found at Workman’s. Winter colors are turquoise, red, and pink in women’s knit tops and dresses.
Semi-formal evening gowns for galas are new at Cashmere Lane, which carries missy and plus sizes in many fashion items. Boot cuffs, Bohemian jewelry, ear warmers, scarves and leggings are filling the store, in Aztec designs and jewel-tone winter colors.
Leopard print gloves in gray and brown slide over rings. Especially appealing is a vintage lace jacket.
“We have fun stuff for the holidays,” said Carrie Lane. “Lots of sweaters, lots of layering. My tunics are always fabulous.”
Lane’s dressing tip is to accessorize with your basics.
“Think what’s in your closet: navy, black, red, that solid color you can accessorize with. Or match a shirt you love with Aztec leggings to make it your own,” she said.
