Multimedia marketing consultants join TDP team

An aggressive new platform to provide advertisers with stellar marketing for their products and services has prompted the addition of two seasoned sales executives to the Tahlequah Daily Press team.

After choosing from literally dozens of applicants and an exhaustive interview campaign, Publisher David Compton announced that Katy Gilstrap and Denise Butler were hired as multimedia marketing consultants. The two women, who have been undergoing rigorous training this week, join Senior Marketing Consultant Bronwyn Duncan on the reorganized staff.

The three-member retail advertising sales crew will be working one-on-one with clients to offer custom-tailored promotional programs across a range of media platforms, including the print newspaper and online e-edition; regular special supplements and projects; and the TDP franchise’s website, www.tahlequahdailypress.com (tahlequahtdp.com), along with its sister mobile site. The idea, they said, is to bring a personalized approach to each individual customer, with an array of options to fit every budget and need.

Recent data prove advertising with the TDP is paying off for clients. The multimedia company has expanded its audience reach exponentially in recent months, with print subscriptions back on the rise, and a formidable online presence ranking well above many Oklahoma media franchises.

“The Tahlequah Daily Press and tahlequahTDP.com are marketing powerhouses for local merchants. Weekly readership for the Press is just under 48,000, and we are the only marketing company around able to offer print, web and mobile,” said Compton. “TahlequahTDP.com was named Best Website by Associated Press two years running, and mobile visits alone are up 130 percent over the prior year.”

Page views to the TDP website in July numbered 332,500, up nearly 13 percent from a year ago, and monthly unique visitors tallied 72,600 – a 33 percent increase from July 2013. Total visitors to the site also marked a substantial increase of 23.5 percent, at almost 130,000. The vast majority of website viewers were from Tahlequah.

Butler is originally from Oklahoma, and she moved back to the area recently from Iowa, where she sold Yellow Pages advertising for 13 years. She was responsible for pitching contracts and securing renewals, and because of her roots in Oklahoma, her company awarded her this state’s territory.

She accepted the position with TDP because she believes regular, creative advertising is the best means of assuring success in business.

“Advertising works. You can get your business name out there and tell people who you are and what you have to offer,” Butler said. “I’m a big believer in it, and I especially think the power of the Internet is phenomenal.”

The career move dovetails Butler’s plan to retire in this area, but she has no plans to do that soon.

“I love this area, and I love sales – the best of both worlds!” she said. “When I saw this opportunity, I jumped at the chance. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to give my clients what they want – to help them bring in more business, and make them more money.”

Gilstrap recently moved to Tahlequah from Pryor, where she had been overseeing marketing projects for Farmers Insurance and State Farm for about two years. As a licensed adjuster, she sold insurance policies, and she also coordinated promotional projects for flyers, post cards and other client correspondence.

An ingrained drive for success attracted her to the TDP position.

“I like the competitive nature of selling. It’s exciting; you never know what will happen from one day to the next,” she said. “I want to be successful, and I also want my clients to be successful.”

Gilstrap is eager to meet her next challenge head-on.

“Tahlequah is a great place, and I view it as a good place to make a living,” she said. “I like hard work, and I’ll be working hard to help my clients bring in money.”

Gilstrap considers customer service a particular specialty.

“I’ll be able to take care of my clients very well, and market their product or service with one main goal in mind: to expand their business,” she said.

Compton said both women mesh well with the TDP philosophy.

“Katy is a savvy, competitive woman with a history at operating as part of a winning team. Denise brings with her a wealth of experience in business to business marketing. They are both driven individuals who will push to assist their customers in generating results,” he said.
