Bright casuals in vogue for summer

TAHLEQUAH — Summer might seem like it will never come, but those 80-degree days will soon be in the weather forecast.

Comfortable, bright-colored skirts, shorts and tops are arriving in stores, and more shipments are on the way. Coral, turquoise, mint, pink and lime are the colors of this summer, along with floral prints.

Chiffon, crochet and sheer fabrics, soft and fluid in feel, are among the warm-weather styles, some which feature high-low tops or longer hemlines. Shorts are to be found in all lengths, and skirts tend toward maxi or knee length, except for those who can sport a mini-skirt fashionably.

“We have a lot of maxi dresses in different prints, along with sun dresses, business dresses and some blazers,” said Chelsea Sullivan, assistant manager at Maurice’s.

Tons of shorts in different lengths and colors are really hot, Sullivan said. Maurice’s carries clothing to fit most any woman, size 0-24.

“We have a lot of florals, bold prints and neon colors in shirts, shorts, flip-flops, pretty much everything – shoes, handbags, jewelry and sunglasses,” she said. “In shoes, there’s wedges, flats and sandals.”

Chunky necklaces are really big now, as are multi-strand necklaces in all different colors and metals, Sullivan added.

Nothing says summer like a big sun hat, and Cashmere Lane downtown has them, along with big purses.

“The bigger the better,” said Alyssia Hylton, manager. “We have summer handbags and light, summer scarves. We also have Brighton and Tony Llama belts to put over skirts to accessorize your outfits.”

Beaded sandals and hand-stamped custom jewelry offer unique fashion statements, along with the new Harley and Maudes jewelry line.

“Harley and Maudes is customizable, with baubles, pendants and different lengths of necklaces,” Hylton said. “We’ll be having an after-hours showcase this week with tables of jewelry.”

Liza Warren, shopping for Mother’s Day with daughter Madisyn, 6, was looking for just the right gift. Pastels are her favorite, she said.

“In the summer, I look for comfortable, cute, stylish and flattering,” said Warren. “I’m a mom of three, and one’s an infant; I want to look fashionable but not motherly.”

Chiffon tops in many pastel colors give Warren many choices at Cashmere Lane. Maxi skirts and dresses are coming in.

“We have new plus sizes in summer colors: coral, teal, lavender and mint,” Hylton said.

They have skinny crop pants, and shorts in all different lengths.

“These are not just for college girls, but for moms,” she said.

The “shaper” is an exciting new item for summer.

“[Shapers are] tank tops that hold all your business in,” Hylton said, “[They have] elastic reinforcement that still lets you breath.”

This summer, popular colors are orange, yellow, bright pink and lime – bright color tones, said Jana Moss, owner of S&V Fashions, on Vinita just off Grand View Road.

“We have a necklace in mint that is gorgeous, called, ‘Statement,’ which is a little like the bubble necklaces with different shapes,” Moss said. “It also comes in turquoise and all the bright colors.”
