Editor, Daily Press:
Last Saturday, my daughter and I were enjoying the events at the Red Fern Festival with our Jack Russell terrier, Jake, when a Great Dane attacked our little dog and injured him severely, puncturing both lungs.
Jake has undergone major surgery and has large incisions on both sides of his body. While he survived the attack and is at home recuperating, the risk of infection is great. Gary, Kelsey and I would like to thank all of the people who tried to separate the dogs, but particularly Garron Marsh. Garron is a regular volunteer for the Humane Society, and knew the best way to separate dogs in a fight is to pour some liquid over the dog’s head, which he did. Garron’s quick thinking saved my dog’s life.
Our family would also like to thank David Moore, members of the Chamber of Commerce, and the public who helped locate Dr. Bill Elliott. Elliott met me at his office within 10 minutes of getting the call and performed emergency surgery.
I would also like to thank all of the people who have called to ask how Jake is doing. Right now, he is asleep at my feet.
