Remember reason for season

TAHLEQUAH — Editor, Daily Press:

We are approaching the holiday season. However, let’s not forget what the holidays really are. It is Thanksgiving, where we give thanks to our forefathers who found this country. And it is Christmas, the ceremony to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

So, as we drive down the street, looking for gifts or items to prepare for this season, look for the establishments with the advertisement of Thanksgiving and Christmas. If a store has a window painted with “Happy Holidays,” drive right on past that store to one that is brave enough to say, “Happy Thanksgiving” and “Merry Christmas.”

Another issue that needs attention: One of our local legislators recently told me  the reason texting and driving is still legal in Oklahoma is because our folks serving in Oklahoma City were worried about their constituents’ getting mad at them if they voted for a law that would make it illegal. Same issue on a law prohibiting passengers riding in the bed of a pickup.  Let your legislators know if they are scared to do the job right, we will find someone who will.

What to you think of a state Legislature proposal to forbid cities from raising the minimum wage? Choose the closest to your opinion.

The federal government should set the minimum wage across the board.
States should be allowed to raise their minimum wages, but not cities.
Both states and cities should be allowed to raise their minimum wages.
Cities should be allowed to raise their mimum wages, but not states.
There should be no minimum wage at all.
