Morton poor choice for award

TAHLEQUAH — Editor, Daily Press:

I was disappointed to read recently that NSU had designated Neil Morton as a Sequoyah Fellow. Unfortunately, Morton is not Cherokee in the truest sense, and has mostly coasted by on reputation the past few years, without actually accomplishing anything substantial to benefit our young people.

It is simply not appropriate to mention him in the same breath as a great leader like Wilma Mankiller, the only other Sequoyah Fellow.

Geary Don Crofford, Ph.D.
