Bathtub rock gets good scrubbing

TAHLEQUAH — Editor, Daily Press:

Thanks to the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission and the Nature Conservancy, senseless vandalism at Bathtub Rock on the Illinois River has been cleaned. Workers using wire brushes cleaned Bathtub Rock.

A lot of elbow grease and several brushes were needed to remove the bright yellow paint idiots left on one of the most beautiful spots in our area. Paint chips were swept up so paint would not get into the river.

Unfortunately, additional vandalism has been found nearby at Goats Bluff. The spot is on private property, and we don’t know specifically what message was painted – again in heavy yellow paint. OSRC Administrator Ed Fite said it can be seen from the river. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office in investigating.

The reward stands at nearly $1,000 for information resulting in the arrest and prosecution of those who are responsible: Kristi and Taysia. Aren’t you two upstanding citizens proud? I’ll bet your children look up to you even more now.
