Make sure you vote

TAHLEQUAH — Editor, Daily Press:

It’s that time of the year again – time for the school board to extend a two-year contract to three years. It seems the board is much more interested in the job security of [Superintendent] Shannon Goodsell than for the teachers and staff.

Last year, the board approved a two-year contract with Goodsell, who came back in April, asking that an additonal year be added to his contract. By a 3-2, vote the board approved it. This was done at the same time that some teachers and staff were being informed there would be personnel cutbacks.

We are currently electing board members for two seats and it is possible that there could be an entirely new school board by the end of his contract. If that were to happen, what kind of a working relationship would there be?

School board elections are important for our community, so be sure to go vote for the candidate of your choice.
