Northeast Oklahoma Community Health Center’s plans for a centrally located facility are moving forward. NeoHealth CEO Dr. Sharon Zang said considerable community support has been generated for the project. She said a design and construction budgets are being developed. “We’ve got support from the mayor, county commissioners, [NSU President] Dr. [Don] Betz and others,” she said. Zang appeared before the Tahlequah Industrial Authority last month, seeking land for the new building. She was told City Attorney Park Medearis would have to review the trust indenture before the board could give her a commitment on land. “We’ve been told they can gift us the land,” Zang said Tuesday. “There’s no worry about the competition ordinance.” Cherokee County commissioners previously announced they would commit an in-kind contribution in support of NeoHealth’s grant application The commissioners have agreed to build a parking lot, if the grant application is approved. In a previous statement, Zang said NeoHealth is seeking $8 million to $12 million of a $1.5 billion nationwide pie for construction and infrastructure of local health care clinics. The TIA meets at 5:30 p.m. to consider the land request and also to review the facility’s profit and loss statements, mission statements and assorted financial documents.
