Published April 21, 2009 09:23 am - April 21, 2009 Commissioners OK fire apparatus bid By BOB GIBBINS Press Staff Writer Cherokee County commissioners unanimously approved a bid for the purchase of a fire apparatus multipurpose response vehicle Monday morning.
The board, acting on the recommendation of Cookson Fire Chief Tim Knight, accepted the $175,100 bid from Pierce Fire Equipment. It was the only bid received. A similar bid for the Keys Fire Department was tabled. The commissioners also approved signing an application for a credit card for the sheriff’s office to use for travel. Lesa Daniels, administrative assistant for the sheriff’s office, told the commissioners they previously granted approval for the office to have a card, but they were unable to find one until now. The card is being issued by Bank of Cherokee County. District 3 Commissioner Mike Ballard said the board did previously agree to allow the sheriff’s office to have a credit card. Approval was given to dispose of two Case loaders in District 3. A lease purchase agreement was also approved for a loader in District 3. Ballard said the board approved a $69,000 purchase price on the loader at a previous meeting. Welch State Bank will finance the loader at $1,550.59 for 48 months. The commissioners also accepted an agreement to work on David Joe Neugin’s property in District 1. Commissioner Doug Hubbard said the work concerns the brush removal from the January ice storm. The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will meet in special session Wednesday, April 22, at 10 a.m. in the second-floor conference room at the Cherokee County Courthouse.
