Published May 14, 2009 11:46 am - William Henry Smith stands accused. Warrant issued for man accused of genital exposure By BOB GIBBINS An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday afternoon for a Cookson man accused of exposing his genitals May 9.
William Henry Smith, 58, is charged with a felony count of indecent exposure. Associate District Judge Mark Dobbins set a $15,000 bond. Paperwork filed with the case states Vernon Martin told deputies he was leaving his house May 9 when he saw Smith mowing his yard. As Martin passed, Smith allegedly made an obscene hand gesture and shook his fist at Martin. He then motioned for Martin to stop, and when Martin didn’t do so, Smith allegedly stood on his lawnmower, bent over, and pulled his shorts down. Martin reported the incident to the sheriff’s office. Investigator Bob Sanders’ report states Sheriff’s Deputy Dave Butts was in the area the next day and stopped Smith for driving in a reckless manner. Smith was allegedly wearing shorts almost short enough to not properly cover himself, and was also sporting eyeliner and carrying a woman’s purse. Smith denied exposing himself to Martin. Indecent exposure is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years and/or a fine of up to $20,000. Assistant District Attorney Josh King is prosecuting the case.
