HULBERT – Following about two hours of executive session Monday night, the Hulbert school board approved hiring 22 support staff personnel and 17 employees for 2008-’09.
The board approved all 22 support staff unanimously, while the 17 employees were voted on separately. Employees Susan Booth, Brandi Brave, Kassandra Dyson, Ronnie Sue Ford, Amanda Hendrix, Teresa Henson, Tonya Kilpatrick, Monty Layton, Rosa McClure, Buffy Reagan, Pamela Sumner, Sandra Tucker, Rhonda Wilson and Sheila Young were approved unanimously.
Sarah Grant was hired in a 3-2 vote, with Vice President Matt Walls and Deputy Clerk Juanita Keener voting against approval. Sandra Johnson received a 4-1 vote, with Walls voting against. Walls also was the only board member to vote against hiring Scott Sapulpa, who was hired after a 4-1 vote.
Superintendent Wayne Ryals read a letter from Patricia McMahan, who requested the board accept her resignation, effective May 16.
McMahan said Hulbert has been a “major part of my life for the past 36 years.”
Board members approved her resignation, to be accompanied by the school’s gratitude for her years of service.
In other action, the board approved a 2008-’09 application for temporary appropriations; increasing two general fund purchase orders; and transfer of money from the class of 2011 to the class of 2009 in the activity fund for use of concession items during a donkey basketball game.
Ryals presented board members with a copy of sample drug and alcohol testing regulations, and recommended the board take no action on the agenda item in order to have more time to look over the samples. Ryals said he didn’t receive the copies until Friday, and thought members may want more time to do research on the topic. President Kent Barnes, Clerk Kathy Lenard and Walls voted to take no action, while board member Rick Gassaway and Keener voted against the action.
