Traveling at an unsafe speed and alcohol are believed to be the causes of two separate crashes that occured in Mayes County Friday evening.
According to reports by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the first incident involved two vehicles and a head-on collision. The report states Xai Lee, 21, of Rose, was driving left of center on County Road EW 4437 in Mayes County at approximately 6:10 p.m., when his car struck a 2007 Ford Mustang driven by Lawrence Stricker Jr., 22, of Oaks.
Lee and his passenger, Jay Lee, 22, of Gentry, Ark., were not injured. Stricker Jr. was transported by Mesta to the OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, where he was admitted in good condition with an arm injury. His passenger, Jayme Carnes, 23, of Kansas, was not injured.
The report states the trooper investigating the crash detected an odor of alcohol. All were wearing seat belts.
The incident was investigated by Lt. Buddy Lamber of the OHP.
In an unrelated, single-car crash, reports state Abby Stephens, 18, of Pryor, was driving her 2005 Honda Civic at an unsafe speed down State Highway 28 at approximately 9:47 p.m., when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. Stephens overcorrected, then ran off the right side of the road again, rolling the vehicle three times.
She was pinned in the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes before being extricated by the Adair Fire Department.
Stephens was transported by Mesta to Mayes County Medical Center, where she was then transported to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was admitted in good condition with head and trunk internal injuries. Stephens was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash was investigated by OHP Trooper Ben Bertram of the Mayes County detachment.
