Flag disposal ceremony slated
The Cherokee County Veterans Council will hold a formal American flag disposal ceremony Saturday, June 13, at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 135 on East Allen Road. Flags that are no longer serviceable will be burned, which is the recommended disposal method for the American flag.
Local organizations making up the veterans council will participate: American Legion Post 50 and Auxiliary, American Legion Post 135, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 135, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3707 and Auxiliary, Military Order of the Purple Heart No. 641, NSU ROTC, B.P.O.E. (Elks Lodge) No. 2601, and Tenkiller Area Community Organization.
Anyone having a flag in need of disposal is invited to bring it to the ceremony or call President Becky Wolfe at 207-7027 for pickup. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony.
Floral arranging class on tap
Monday, June 22 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Josh Cottrell, from A Cowboy Rose, will be at the Tahlequah Public Library, demonstrating the art of floral arranging.
The class is limited to adults 18 and over, with a limit of 20. Each participant will be taking home an arrangement they have created themselves during the class. All materials are provided. A door prize will also be given away.
Anyone interested can call the library at (918)456-2581, extension 22 or come by 120 S. College to sign up. Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Saturday. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tenkiller Women’s Club to meet
Tenkiller Women’s Club will hold its June luncheon meeting at noon on Wednesday, June 17 in the Fellowship Hall of Cookson Methodist Church, on West Cookson Bend Road.
The meeting will be a fundraiser for the Humane Society oc Cherokee County. Lunch will be provided by Beth Rogers and staff, and the cost will be $10. Reservations may be made by calling Pat Sharp at (918) 457-4419, no later than Monday, June 15. All area women are invited to attend, and if desired, become members.
Art Of Living festival Saturday
The Art of Living Festival will be Saturday, June 13, in downtown Tahlequah from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The Art of Living festival brings artists and live entertainment together with eateries, wineries and breweries to downtown Tahlequah in the event’s first gathering for the city of Tahlequah and Cherokee Nation.
There will be interactive craft demonstrations, including Cherokee marble-making and games, bow-making, pottery, basket-weaving, beadwork, Cherokee story-telling and stickball stick-making, among other activities.
