A rural Cherokee County house was completely destroyed by fire Friday morning. Tahlequah Fire Department Capt. Ted Kupsick reported the fire is believed to have started in the house’s attic.
Kupsick said indications from when firefighters arrived shortly after receiving the 8 a.m. alarm were that the fire started in the top of the house. It was raining hard in town when the fire started at 20793 S. 460 Road.
The 2,500 square foot home, owned by Brad Tullis, is a total loss. Kupsick said no one was living in the house at the time of the fire and no one was inside the residence.
Firefighters from Woodall and Hulbert came in to assist Tahlequah firefighters. The house is near the border of the Woodall and Tahlequah district line. Both departments supplied tankers and Woodall also supplied manpower, Kupsick said.
Tahlequah firefighters were on scene for approximately five hours. The cause of the fire is not known.
