Area road closing for 90 days
District 3 Cherokee County Commissioner Mike Ballard announced Tuesday that South 530 Road will be closed for approximately 90 days or until the bridge by Ross Cemetery is completed.
Ballard said South 540 Road will be open for an alternate route.
CASA car wash on tap June 27
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Cherokee Country will be having a fundraising car wash Saturday, June 27, at Autozone, 1628 S. Muskogee Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon. Half of the proceeds will go to CASA and half will go to the savings accounts of youth assisted by CASA.
CASA volunteers are ordinary men and women from all walks of life who volunteer to advocate, in court and in the community, for children who have been abused and neglected, and are temporarily under the protection of juvenile court. For more information, call Juli Skinner at (918) 458-6933.
Tribe sets CCDF plan hearing
The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma Child Care Development Fund Hearing is set for Wednesday, June 24.
The hearing will start at 6 p.m. in the Henry Lee Doublehead Child Development Center. All community members are invited to the hearing to review the 2010 Tribal CCDF plan.
New Life sponsoring fireworks
The Cherokee County fireworks display will be Sunday, July 5 at 8 p.m. at the Cherokee County Rodeo Arena, located on U.S. Highway 62 West.
Admission will be free, and a concession stand will be open. The event is sponsored by New Life Worship Center. For more information, call (918) 456-8500.
