Published June 27, 2008 09:43 am - Tahlequah man faces grand larceny charges By JOSH NEWTON TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — STILWELL – A Tahlequah man was charged in Adair County District Court this week with two counts of grand larceny.
Dorian Scott Earl, 38, allegedly took by stealth a military-type generator weighing approximately 4,500 pounds, with a value in excess of $500. The generator belonged to the Adair County Rural Water District No. 5, and was taken without consent between Nov. 1 and 30, 2007. A second count alleges Earl, at the same time, took a black, two-axle trailer from the same water district. Earl was arrested in May by Tahlequah Police Department Detective Dale Glory when Earl came to the detectives’ office to speak with them about a stolen property investigation. Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault told the Press in May an industrial water pump taken from Patton Construction in late 2007 was recovered, along with the generator taken from the Christie water district. Chennault said Earl told investigators about taking six trailers in Cherokee and Adair counties, and then allegedly gave authorities permission to search his property on Mud Valley Road. An SKS rifle was found in the house. Earl also allegedly admitted to taking at least 100 gallons of diesel from storage tanks and vehicles in the area. Court records show Earl was charged in Cherokee County in May with two counts of grand larceny and knowingly concealing stolen property. The felony charges out of Adair County are each punishable by imprisonment for up to five years, plus a fine of up to $5,000.
