Two Tahlequah men were jailed Wednesday on drug possession charges after authorities served a search warrant on a local residence.
Sheriff’s Investigator Nate King said Richard Wayne Russell, 43, and Bryan Robertson, 31, were booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center after personnel from the sheriff’s office, District 27 drug task force and Tahlequah police served a search warrant at 1320 E. Boone No. 4.
Both men were booked on charges of possession of controlled drug within 1,000 feet of a park or school, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
King said the playground equipment at Hastings Indian Medical Center is within 1,000 feet of the residence.
Law enforcement personnel found controlled substances believed to be methamphetamine and marijuana, along with multiple items of suspected paraphernalia.
King said Russell’s bond was set Wednesday afternoon at $25,000; a bond had yet to be set on Robertson.
Cherokee County court records show Russell has three pending drug possession cases.
The search warrant and arrests culminated a narcotics investigation opened by King and Sheriff’s Investigator Casey Baker.
Formal charges are expected to be filed in district court against Robertson and Russell.
