Published October 26, 2009 09:59 am - Oct. 23, 2009 Warrants issued for alleged truck thieves By BOB GIBBINS Press Staff Writer Arrest warrants were issued Thursday afternoon for two men charged with stealing a new truck from Yates Auto Mall.
Prosecutors charged Darryll Justin Lee Reed, 23, and Kenneth Hammick, 24, with larceny of a motor vehicle and knowingly concealing stolen property. The counts stem from the alleged theft of a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab pickup on June 25. Tahlequah Police Sgt. Randy Tanner filed a report stating Tahlequah officers were notified by Grove police of the possible theft. Tanner went to the car dealership on South Muskogee, where he discovered a pile of broken glass and “spin-out” marks from the tires that started in the car lot and went into the grass. The truck was also allegedly taken by Means Furniture Store, which is adjacent to the dealership. Tanner’s report states Officer Tyler Trammel, who has since been promoted to sergeant, learned Hammick and Reed were bragging about taking the truck. Other evidence was also found inside the truck, which was abandoned in Grove. Larceny of a motor vehicle is punishable by a prison term of three to 20 years and/or a fine of up to three times the value of the vehicle not to exceed $500,000. Knowingly concealing stolen property is punishable by up to five years in prison or a year in the county jail and/or a fine of up to $500. A bond is set on Reed’s warrant at $10,000. Hammick’s is set at $20,000. Assistant District Attorney Josh King is prosecuting the case.
