NSU employee caught with stolen items

By BOB GIBBINS
Staff Writer

TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS

A large amount of computer and other electronic equipment, as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia, has been seized from the home of an NSU electrician as campus police investigate the theft of a laptop computer and projector.

NSU Officer Trent Butler served a search warrant last week for the home of Ronnie Jones, 30. The warrant was issued after an investigation determined the laptop computer was allegedly being used from Jones’ Park Hill residence.

Coach Terry Jones reported the theft of the school-issued computer and projector from the defense planning room at Doc Wadley Stadium on Sept. 2.

The laptop has software that allows its usage to be traced and the computer’s location to be determined. A representative of Absolute Recovery Services contacted Butler Oct. 16 to report activity on the stolen laptop, Butler’s affidavit for the search warrant states.

A subpoena to Fullnet Communications gave investigators a phone number being used to access a dial-up connection. The address of service for that number was then located. The affidavit states the user of the stolen laptop was logged in as jonesrd@nsuok.edu.

A list of seized property includes the laptop, a desktop PC, Mac Pro keyboard, an IBM flat monitor, three projectors, two cameras, four security cameras, a television, DVD/VCR players, three USB devices, a lithium battery, hypodermic needles, empty pen tubes, partial glass methamphetamine pipes, a razor blade and a plastic baggy containing marijuana.

No charges had been filed against Ronnie Jones as of Monday morning.
