Local man charged with rape, burglary

— Cherokee County prosecutors have charged a local man with first-degree burglary and first-degree rape following an alleged assault on a woman earlier this year.
Andy Eugene Williams, 27, was charged with the two felonies after an investigation by Tahlequah police. Authorities allege he forced his way into the woman’s home in the 300 block of South Muskogee and sexually assaulted her.
Department of Corrections records show Williams was sentenced to five years in prison in 2006 for domestic abuse, possession of controlled drug and second-degree burglary. His sentences were scheduled to run until 2011, but the DOC Web site shows he was released June 9.
Williams was charged with first-degree burglary and robbery in April.
The case was set for a hearing Nov. 6 and delayed to Dec. 4 for new charges to be filed. It also shows he was waiting on a treatment bed.
First-degree rape is punishable by imprisonment for five years to life and first-degree burglary is punishable by imprisonment for seven to 20 years.
Assistant District Attorney Yvette Duvall is prosecuting the case.
