Commissioners approve refuse trailer bid

Cherokee County commissioners voted Monday to approve a Tulsa firm’s bid for a walking floor refuse trailer during a light agenda at their regular meeting.

Southwest Trailers and Equipment was one of three bidders. Bids were opened Nov. 17 and tabled to allow the commissioners to view the trailers.

The commissioners have yet to look at the trailers, but District 2 Commissioner Bobby Botts recommended Southwest’s bid because the sides were composed of a thicker gauge steel.

“That’s the longevity of the trailer,” he said. “The thinner ones won’t last as long.”

The other companies submitting bids are from Stockton, Kan., and Rupert, Idaho.

No bids were received to open for a pumper-tanker for the Chicken Creek Fire Department. Notice will be given to the fire department to let them determine when and if they want to ask again for bids.

The board of commissioners adopted a resolution to use matching funds to match a commitment from homeowners for South Val Verde Road.

District 3 Commissioner Mike Ballard said the road is in his district and is in the Snake Creek area. The county and homeowners will split 50-50 the cost of asphalting the road.

The commission approved replacing Marsha Gross with Kathy Buford as a receiving officer for the Cherokee County Health Department.

What’s next

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will be Monday, Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. in the second-floor conference room at the Cherokee County Courthouse.
