Six file for seats on local school boards By BOB GIBBINS Staff Writer TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — Two incumbents filed for re-election Monday as a three-day filing period opened for school board candidates.
Garry Million, the current officeholder in Lowrey School Board Office 1, filed to keep his post. Elizabeth Colvin, the incumbent in Shady Grove Office 2, filed late Monday to retain her seat. Donna Tinnin filed for Seat 4 on the Tahlequah I-35 board, a post currently held by Louis White. Tinnin was joined by Jay Myers, who filed for Seat 2 on the Briggs School Board; and Audra Conner, filing for Office 2 at Peggs. Charles Thompson also filed for office late Monday, choosing to seek Office 4 in Hulbert. Cherokee County Election Board Secretary Connie Parnell said candidates may file their declarations of candidacy through Wednesday at 5 p.m. The elections are set Feb. 10 with a runoff, if necessary, on April 7. To be a candidate for school board, the person must have been a registered voter within the geographical boundaries of the district for six months preceding the filing period. He or she must have also lived within the district for at least six months preceding the first day of the period. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and incumbents must meet continuing education requirements before the date set for filing for re-election to the same board seat.
