Published December 09, 2008 09:28 am - Fite enters blind no contest plea TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — A Tahlequah woman entered a no-contest “blind plea” Monday to three counts of filing a false instrument.
Jimmie Michelle Fite’s case was set for jury trial Monday before Chief District Judge Bruce Sewell, but she opted for the plea. This means she, defense attorney Jim Cosby and Assistant District Attorney David Pierce have no agreed plea deal, and the sentence will be set by Sewell next month. Fite, 39, was charged Aug. 31, 2007, with the felony offenses after an investigation by Amos Farr, representing the Oklahoma Insurance Department. Prosecutors allege she filed false or forged bond documents in the Cherokee County Court Clerk’s office. Fite, who was writing bail bonds at the time, has been free on bond. Fite was initially charged with five counts, but two counts were dismissed in January when Fite was bound over for trial by now-retired Special District Judge David Nelson.
