Representatives of Dollar General have applied for beer licenses that could allow all of the Cherokee County locations to soon offer the product.
Eight licenses were requested Friday afternoon in Cherokee County by Dolgencorp LLC, one for each local store. The retailer is reportedly asking to sell low-point beer at most, if not all, of its Oklahoma sites.
In recent years, the company has saturated Cherokee County with Dollar General stores.
If no protest is filed against Friday’s requests, Dollar General should receive its license approvals Sept. 3.
The company has been testing beer sales – and at some locations in the U.S., even wine sales – for several years, according to media reports.
Dollar General has also been working to offer tobacco products at the majority of its stores.
