TAHLEQUAH — Tahlequah police, along with the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, are investigating after an off-duty officer was apparently ambushed on Bliss Avenue.

Police Chief Nate King said Tahlequah Reserve Officer Skylar Green was driving Saturday evening around 11 when he noticed debris in the road on Bliss. Green stopped to move the items and was assaulted.

“He was accosted by three unknown men,” said King.

Green was injured and sought medical treatment after the assault, which investigators believe to be random.

“It looks like a random act of violence, and doesn’t look like he was targeted,” King said.

A report has not been completed on the attack.

Green is a reserve officer for the Tahlequah Police Department and a dispatcher for the CN Marshal Service.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call the Tahlequah Police Department at (918) 456-8801.
