Underage girls allegedly drunk at party

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s officials are investigating a weekend party where several underage girls became intoxicated with liquor.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Moore said he was called Friday to Garden Walk Apartments to check out a loud party. Moore could see several people inside the apartment when he looked through a window, but when he knocked on the door, it took several minutes before a 16-year-old girl answered.

Moore said he could see the living room had been trashed, with broken furniture and items scattered all over the floor. A woman was passed out on the floor, and a man was also on the floor with his face covered in blood. Moore said he could see a claw hammer with a broken handle on the floor.

The 16-year-old girl allowed Moore inside the apartment. Moore said an adult woman, who apparently lived at the home, was intoxicated and uncooperative with him in trying to identify the woman who was passed out.

The 16-year-old reportedly told Moore the man on the floor had attacked her mother, so her mother “kicked his a--.” The man had multiple injuries to his face, along with swelling, and smelled of alcohol.

Moore said the woman who was passed out on the floor appeared to be having difficulty breathing, so ambulances were called for both the man and woman. Moore was eventually able to identify both of them, and they were transported by ambulances.

A man later approached the apartment with another girl and told Moore he was looking for his 13-year-old daughter, who had been with the girl at the apartment. The girl who was with the man reportedly said she had been drinking vodka with the others, but left through a window when fighting erupted in the apartment.

The 16-year-old girl who met Moore at the door told the deputy the 13-year-old was not at the residence, but that teen later came out from inside the apartment. She smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on her feet, according to Moore.

One of the teens had allegedly purchased the liquor from a woman at another apartment before taking it to the party.

The 13-year-old girl was released to her father, and had to be carried home, according to Moore.

Moore said both the man and woman who were taken away by ambulances had outstanding warrants.
